Another day, another weird religious monument in the middle of nowhere. After the 65 foot tall Jesus on the Mountain, and the Disneyland style theme park in Florida, I thought I had seen it all, but today I found a tribute to the Ten Commandments that can be seen from a plane. If I were a betting man, I would say that you can see this thing from space.
Fields of the Wood is located at the foot of the Great Smoky Mountains and was founded by A.J. Tomlinson in 1903, and the first alter was placed on top of the hill. Throughout the years, the park has grown to not only include the 10 Commandments, but also a “Prayer Mountain, that has the major Catholic prayers written on stones, A recreation of Galilee, and the tomb that Jesus was buried in.
This place is absolutely bonkers. The sheer size and spectacle is overwhelming.
It’s awesome.
