I have to admit that I have been on a bit of a patriotic binge while on these trips. Most of my time driving has been spent listening to biographies of past presidents, relearning our national history in a more in depth way than public school could ever teach someone. Learning all of this, while exploring many of the locations talked about made me really excited to get to Washington DC. This is where it all happened, and still happens today. But what is there to do if you’re not there for work? I say go to the National Mall.
This is where it’s all at. Both Smithsonian Museums, the three Presidential Monuments, The National Archives, Congress. At first it can be a little overwhelming, especially since there is almost no parking available. It can take days to view it all, but as all of it is free, you can explore to your hearts content. Unfortunately, many of the really cool places that hold things such as The Constitution or The Original American Flag, don’t allow photography, but that just means you need to go and see it yourself!
