In a town known mostly for its tobacco, Winston holds a hidden treasure that I feel every EV driving near has to stop by, the last Shell Station shaped like a shell.
Standing there with two bookends of automotive technology around me had me feeling strangely satisfied. The clamshell stations represented the transformation of a brand into a building, a symbol into a real thing. I feel this is exactly what Tesla is doing with their cars, becoming a symbol for sustainable travel. This was the first time I felt truly proud to be a Tesla owner, to be a representative of that symbol. There really isn’t much else to do in Winston, but with a supercharger not far away (Greensboro) I recommend this trip.
